EU Trade Secrets Directive to come into force on 5 July 2016

The AmeriKat has adopted one means of
keeping things secret....
Every morning for the past three weeks when she woke up, a bleary-eyed AmeriKat would check the Official Journal to see if the EU Trade Secrets Directive had made its debut.  At times it felt like waiting for Godot.

But this morning the stalking came to an end with the publication of Directive (EU) 2016/943  - otherwise known as the EU Trade Secrets Directive -  in the Official Journal (see link here).  The publication comes almost three weeks after the Council unanimously adopted the Directive (see post here).

Under Article 20, the Directive:
"...shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union."
Which means that the Directive will come into force on 5 July 2016.  Member States have a maximum of two years to incorporate the Directive's provisions into domestic law.
